Modern Indian Painting

Modern Indian Paintings reflect the complexity of modern life .because Modern Indian Painters are city dwellers and not free from the complexities of modern life.Intellectually they accept the tenets of modern art , as much as they share the experience of modern man.Raja Ravi Varma of Kerala gained much reputation in the period through his paintings of portraiture and mythological subjects.Abanindranath tried to re-create a national style in painting. He assiduously experimented in techniques of Indian miniature, fresco , scroll and pata paintings.

Gaganendranath studied the pictorial possibilities.he experimented with Cubism and Coalescence of forms.Amrita Shergil symbolizes the interaction of Indian and European tradition that is visible in the bulk of modern Indian Painting.
