CANNONBALL TREE(NAGAGANDHI)

Cannonbal tree is a deciduous tree in the flowering plant family Lecythidaceae.It is native to the tropical forests of Central and South America.You can find these amazing trees commonly around in Shiva temples in India and in Buddhist temples in Srilanka and Thailand.It is cultivated because of its beautiful ,fragrant flowers and large interesting fruitsInterestingly the petals of the Naga Linga Flower resemble the hood a snake.Fruits are brownish grey.In English,it is known as Cannonball tree.The tree is named because of its fruits that look like a Cannonball.The tree produces large,Spherical fruits.The fruit of the cannonball tree is also fascinating.Fruit can contain about 65 seeds,but the larger fruits can have about 550 seeds.One tree can bear about 150 fruits.It takes a long time for the fruit to mature.It will take atleast one year and in some places;it takes alomost 18 months.It is also called Shiva Kamal.Other names are Nagalingam in Tamil,Nagalinga Pushpa in Kannada,Nagamalli or Mallikarjunaflowers in Telugu.

The Cannonball Tree was named botanically as Couroupita guaiane NSIS by the French botanist J.F.Aublet in the year 1755.There are medical uses for maney parts of Couroupita guianensis and the tree has cultural and religious significance in INDIA.In Srilanka,the Cannonball tree has been widely misidentified as Sal,after its introduction to the  island by the British in 1881,and has been included as a common item in Buddhist temples as a result.
Cannonball fruits are edible when ripe,but they are not commonly consumed due to a permeating, pungent odor released from the flesh.The Nagagandhi tree has many medical benefits.The extracts of the tree have been used to treat hypertension,tumors,pain and inflammation.

HOW TO MAKE CHUKKU KAPPI

INGREDIENTS

*Coriander seeds-1 tablespoon
*Dry Ginger -A small piece
*Palm Jaggery-1 big piece
*Water-3cups

STEPS
1,Add everything to the water and bring to a boil.
2,Let it boil for 2 minutes.
3,serve hot/warm.

MEDICAL BENEFITS AND USES OF KACHOLAM(GALANGA)

KACHOLAM is an attractive medicinal plant used in various medicines.The plant is a perennial herb with aromatic rhizomes with rotund ovate leaves,lying close to the surface of the ground without any prominent pseudostem.the underground rhizome is globose with prominent secondary tubers and bulbous roots.It is a reputed remedy for respiratory ailment like cough ,brochitis and asthma.Chewing kacholam rhizome along with betel leaf cures cough and other breathing problems.For tooth ache,apply rhizome pulp on the gum.It can be used in hair tonics as a perfume.Adding rhizome powder in herbal shampoo helps to prevent dandruff.    


Administering dry rhizome powder mixed with honey can prevent vomiting.To cure worm infection in children,administer one teaspoon of fresh rhizome juice.For stomach ache take rhizome pulp.For curing stomach ailments in children,give one spoonful of Kacholam powder mixed in lemon juice and ginger.

Manga Inchi is also know as Karpoor Turmeric or Amba Turmeric.It is a powerful Ayurvedic spice used in Ayurvedic spice used in Ayurveda for various health issues.The powerful health benefits of manga Inchi make it an important herb in the Ayurveda.Curcuma amada , or mango ginger is a plant of the ginger family Zingiberaceae and is closely related to turmeric.The rhizomes are very similar to common ginger but have a raw mango taste.It got the generic name mango ginger or mango turmeric because it produces mango like  smell  when  the fresh rhizome cut.It is used in making pickles and chutneys in India.It is called mavina shunti in Kannada language.It is also known as temu pauh in malaysia,Khamin khao in Thailand and temu mangga in Indonesia.

*Scraped coconut - 1 cup
*Shallots - 6 small nos
*Curry leaves - 1 small sprig
*Red chili powder -1 Teaspoon
*Salt - to taste
1,Grind all ingredients together without adding water.
2,Serve with rice or gruel.

Curcumin is a bright yellow chemical produced by plants of the curcuma longa species.It is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric,a member of ginger family.Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric,and it has powerful biological properties.Western medicine has begun to study turmeric as a pain reliever and healing agent.According to the United States Department of Agriculture(usda)National Nutrient Database,one tablespoon(tbsp)of turmeric powder contains.

The Steps to follow for making turmeric tea are :
*Boil 4 cups of water
*Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of ground,grated,or powdered turmeric.
*Allow the mixture to simmer for approximately 10 minutes.
*Strain the tea into a container and allow it to cool for 5 minutes.

DANDRUFF

Dandruff is a scaly condition of scalp caused by the hair follicle becoming blocked with excess sebum and is so associated with oily skin and acne.It can equally well be caused by stress and anxiety or by keeping the head covered.

Followed this routine.Wash the hair every other day using a mild baby shampoo then rinse the scalp in either warm water to which you have added 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar or a strong infusion of the following:burdock root,stinging nettles,raspberry leaves,sage,goosegrass,marjoram,parsely quince seeds,rosemary or southern wood.Any of the herbs can be added to soapwort shampoo.


*Apple juice tonic Mix together 1 tablespoon of pure apple juice and 3 tablespoons of warm water and massage into the scalp three times a week.

*The essential liquid required to keep us alive and breathing is also our first line of defence when it comes to treating dandruff.

*Ample amount of water flowing through your body keeps it moisturized and helps the blood reach your scalp.Because of hydration,you also reduce the number of flakes on your scalp,thereby decreasing the appearance of dandruff.

 BOTANICAL NAME: CAPSICUM FRUTESCENS

 Bird's eye chilli  is a chilli pepper usually seen in Southeast Asian  Countries.It is also called by the name bird's chilli or Thai chili.In India,It is commonly seen in Kerala,Meghalaya and Assam.In Kerala,It is known as KANTHARI MULAKU.Birds love to pick the ripe chilli and since it is spread by birds they are called by the name bird's eye chilli.Bird's Eye chilli or Pepper is one of the distinguished cultivar-groups of capsicum annuum.The chemical compound present in bird's chilli which results in burning sensation is called Capsaician.Bird's eye chilli contains  Vitamin a,b,c and e and Minerals.Bird's eye chilli are commonly used in Kerala and other parts of India.


                     Bird's Eye chilli is the star of the Market.The Market price of this chilli is Rs.250 per Kg    .The Bird Eye pepper is a slow-growing short-term perennial or perennial sub-shurb.It is  beautiful plant. Flowers are n clusters of 2 or more,waxy greenish white,usually erect.Friits elongate,usually upright,usually small and narrow,up to 5cm ❌ 1cm,green to cream and yellow when immature ,orange to red when mature,fruit wall smooth and extremely pungent.The peculiarity of this cultivation is that it does not require any significant care.No scientific application of fertilizers or maintenance methods is required for this crop.These are available in the market in a variety of colours.Bird's Eye chilli can be grown in any climate.

Boiled tapioca with Kanthari Mulaku chammanthi(Bird's Eye chilli Chutney) is a deadly combo.Key ingredients are fresh kanthari mulaku(Bird's Eye Chilli),small onions or garlic,salt, and coconut oil.you can made this dish with small onion or garlic.Crush Kanthari mulaku with small onion or garlic and mix with salt.you can add 1table spoon coconut oil to this mixture.Coconut oil will reduce the hot effect of Kanthari mulaku and you can serve this with boiled tapioca,rice etc.
