Gitanjali Rao: Time Magazine names teenage inventor its first "Kid of the year"

 A 15-YEAR-OLD Scientist and inventor has been named as Time Magazine's first " Kid of the year".Gitanjali Rao ,from Denver,Colorado,has invented new technologies across a range of field, including a device that can identify lead in drinking water,and an app and chrome extension that uses artificial intelligence to detect cyberbullying.

                                                        

She said she hoped she could inspire others to dream up ideas to "Solve the worlds's problem".

Global teacher with a golden heart

 For a primary scool teacher in rural Maharashtra,it was a million dollar moment as he was named winner of the 2020 Global Teacher Prize that had more than 12,000 contenders from over 140 nations.That Ranjitsinh Disale has a heart  of gold became evident from the fact that he resolved to share a whopping 50%  of the prize money with nine other fellow finalists.Hailing from Paritewadi Village in Solapur district ,Disale,32,won the $1 million prize for his efforts to promote girls' education and help trigger a quick-response coded text book revolution in the country.

A video clip of the ceremony,capturing the moment Disale was named the winner and his beaming parents,trended on Twitter.

Teachers,he said,are the real changemakers."They always believe in giving and sharing,which is why,I will share 50% of the prize money among my finalists".Well Said.

Disale's interventions since 2009 helped kids access books in local languages.He embeded textbooks with unique QR Codes to give students access to audio poems,stories and assignments

 വിക്രം സാരാഭായി സ്പേസ് സെൻ്റർ മുൻ ഡയറക്ടർ എസ്.രാമകൃഷ്ണൻ അന്തരിച്ചു.1972 മുതൽ ഡോ.എ.പി.ജെ അബ്ദുൾ കലാമിൻ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ആദ്യ ഉപഗ്രഹ വിക്ഷേപണ റോക്കറ്റായ എസ്.എൽ.വി 3 പ്രൊജക്ടിൻ്റെ വികാസത്തിൽ പങ്കാളിയായാണ് ഔദ്യോഗിക ജീവിതം ആരംഭിച്ചത്.ഐ.എസ്.ആർ.ഒ യുടെ നിരവധി അഭിമാന പദ്ധതികളിൽ തലവനായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ച എസ്.രാമകൃഷ്ണൻ 2013-ലാണ് വി.എസ്.എസ്.സി ഡയറക്ടർ ആകുന്നത്.2003-ൽ രാജ്യം പത്മശ്രീ നൽകി ആദരിച്ചു.

Sushrutha : The Father of Surgery

Sushrutha is considered as the founding father of surgery.His period is usually placed between the period of 1200 BC - 600 BC.He lived ,taught ,and practiced in what presently corresponds to the city of Varanasi (Kashi ,Benares),and is remembered especially for his innovative method of rhinoplasty.If the history of science is traced back to its origin ,   it probably starts from an unmarked era of ancient time. Although the science of medicine and sugery has advanced by leaps and bounds today ,many techniques practiced today have still been derived from the practices of the ancient Indian scholars.

Sushrutha has described Surgery under eight heads : Chedya (excision) ,Lekhya (Scarification),Vedhya(puncturing),Esya (exploration), Ahrya(extraction),Vsrya(evacuation) and sivya.He treated numerous cases of Nasa Samdham(rhinoplasty),Oshtha Sandhan(clobuloplasty),Karna Sandhan(Otoplasty).Eventoday ,rhinoplasty described by Sushruta in600 BC is referred to as the Indian flap and he is known as the originator of plastic Surgery.Sushrutha who considered surgery the first and foremost branch of medicine and stated that Surgery has the superior advantage of producing instantaneous effects by means of surgical instruments and appliances and hence is the highest in value of all the medical tantras.Sushrutha is considered to be the first surgeon to have removed Cataracts ,describing Varieties of cataracts along with the depression method of counching by the anterior root.Sushrutha developed surgical techniques for reconstructing noses ,earlobes and genitalia ,many amputed as religious ,criminal ,or military punishment.He developed the forehead flap rhinoplasty procedure that remainscontemporary plastic Surgical practice ;also the otoplastic technique for reconstructing an earlobe with skin from the cheek.

His works are compiled as sushrutha Samhitha.He describes 60 types of Upkarma for tratment of wounds,120 surgical insruments and 300 surgical procedures ,and classification of human surgeries in eight categories.The Rigveda-the earlist account of ancient Indian civilization mentions that Ashwini kumaras known as Vedic periods,who  had performed rare legendary surgical operations which included the first plastic surgery to re-join the head and trunk of saint Chyavana when Dakshya cut his head.

 ആലപ്പുഴ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിലെ മെഡിസിൻ വിഭാഗം പ്രഫസറും ഫൈലേറിയ ഗവേഷണ വിഭാഗം മേധാവിയുമായ ഡോ.ടി.കെ സുമയ്ക്ക് അമേരിക്കൻ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ട്രോപ്പിക്കൽ മെഡിസിൻ ആൻഡ് ഹൈജീനിൻ്റെ 2020-ലെ രാജ്യാന്തര പുരസ്കാരം.30 വർഷത്തെ പ്രവർത്തനത്തിലൂടെ ഇന്ത്യൻ മെഡിക്കൽ ഗവേഷണ രംഗത്തു ഫൈലേറിയ ഗവേഷണ വിഭാഗത്തെ മുൻപന്തിയിലെത്തിച്ചതിനാണ് പുരസ്കാരം.ഈ പുരസ്കാരം നേടുന്ന ആദ്യ മലയാളിയാണ് ഡോ.സുമ.

 1999 ജനുവരി ഒന്നു മുതൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ ഡിസംബർ 31 വരെ വിവിധ കാരണങ്ങളാൽ മുടങ്ങിപ്പോയ എംബ്ലോയ്മെൻ്റ്  രജിസ്ട്രേഷൻ  പുതുക്കാൻ സാധിക്കാത്തവർക്ക് തനത് സീനിയോരിറ്റി നിലനിർത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് പുതുക്കുന്നതിന് ഫെബ്രുവരി 28 വരെ സമയം അനുവദിച്ചു.

Postgraduate Ayurveda doctors can now perform Surgeries

 Postgraduate degree holders of Ayurveda can now perform orthopaedic,ophthalmology,dental and ENT procedures as well as surgeries ,besides general surgery.

The central Council of Indian medicine(CCIM) said in a gazette notification that those holding masters in Ayurveda will get formal training for such procedures and surgeries,hitherto done only by practitioners of modern medicine.
