Lakshmikutty Amma was born at kallar of Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala , India in 1945.She lives in a small thatched hut in the forest of kallar near Ponmudi, Thiruvananthapuram.she is a member of the Kani tribe.she has attained the education of 3rd forum and knows sanskrit.she also writes poem and dramas.
Lakshmikutty Amma has been practicing traditional medicine for the past 50 years.she nurtues around 150 herbal medicine plants , which have saved around 350 people bitten by poisonous snakes.she can recall more than 500 varieties of medicine.people fondly refer to her as Vana muthassi (Grandmmother of the Jungle in malayalam).she is a teacher of folklore academy.
she got Kerala government's Nattuvaidya Ratna Award in 1995.Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Lakshmi kutty Amma's contributions in his monthly Mann Ki Baat Radio programme..she received the India's fourth highest civilian honour padma shri for her breakthrough in practicing traditional medicine.
